Hormonal imbalance
If you are a woman with a health issue that is related to a hormonal imbalance you are not alone. Premenstrual syndrome is the most commonly known problem, but really it is just the tip of the iceberg. Polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis and fibroids are all caused by hormonal dysfunction. Other related problems include acne, migraines and thrush. Emotional swings, bloating, painful, heavy, light or irregular periods are all early signs that hormones are not working harmoniously. The menopause is a time when hormones are in a natural state of flux, resulting in heat flashes and night sweats.
The main form of conventional treatment for most of these issues is the contraceptive pill or HRT during the menopause. Many women are rightly concerned about taking the pill or HRT for more than a short time, or find that it does not agree with them. Others take it for a number of years and then want to stop taking it, but are concerned that their symptoms will return.
Artificial hormones such as those used in the pill, hormonal implants, the Mirena coil, contraceptive injections, the morning after pill and HRT are strong drugs that work by overriding the natural hormone system in the body. While not all women have problems after using them, some women do, and are naturally concerned when their periods do not return within a few months, or when their original symptoms return.
Homeopathy is an effective form of treatment that helps to balance hormones naturally in order to restore regular periods and alleviate any other problems along the way. It is also useful for ensuring a smooth transition through the menopause.
My approach
I often suggest nutritional supplements and herbs to maximise reproductive and hormonal health, as well as deeper acting homeopathic remedies to gently detoxify and rebalance the endocrine system. Most women find that they feel more positive in themselves in terms of their energy and emotions, as well as feeling better on a physical level.
